The education and participation package supports children, adolescents, and young adults from low-income families. The aim is to enable them to participate fully in education, culture, and social activities, regardless of their parents' financial situation.
1. Who is eligible? Children, adolescents, and young adults are eligible for BuT benefits if their parents receive the following: Citizen’s allowance (formerly unemployment benefit II) Social assistance Housing allowance or child supplement (KiZ) Benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act 2. Scope of BuT benefits The package covers various areas important for education and social life: School trips and excursions: Coverage of costs for single or multi-day class trips and excursions Personal school supplies: Annual flat rate for notebooks, pens, school bags, etc. Learning support (tutoring): Coverage of costs if additional learning support is necessary to ensure promotion Midday meals: Subsidy for lunch at school, after-school care, or daycare Participation in social and cultural life: Monthly amount for membership fees (e.g., sports club, music school) or participation in leisure activities Student transportation: Coverage of school commuting costs (under certain conditions) 3. Application and responsibility Application: Benefits must be applied for separately. The application is submitted to the responsible municipal office (usually social services or job center) Proof: Documentation of benefit receipt and relevant costs (e.g., for tutoring or sports club fees) must be provided Objective: To support educational opportunities and promote the social integration of children and young people.
